Bitcoin Rainbow Chart: Understanding Long-Term Price Ranges
The Bitcoin Rainbow Chart uses logarithmic regression and nine color bands to show where Bitcoin’s price stands relative to its long-term historical trend. It is useful for helping understand valuation ranges and market sentiment, but it cannot predict exact prices and should not be used alone for trading decisions.
What is the Rainbow Chart?
The Bitcoin Rainbow Chart is a long-term visual analysis tool. It displays Bitcoin’s historical price movement on a logarithmic price scale and divides it into nine colored bands, ranging from severely undervalued to extremely overvalued. The band into which the price falls can help beginners understand its position relative to the historical trend, but it cannot be used to derive an exact target price.
How to read the color bands
When reading it, first identify the color band containing the current price, then consider the historical valuation and sentiment range represented by that band. Lower bands usually indicate that the price is below the long-term trend, the central yellow area is close to the midpoint of the historical trend, and upper bands indicate possible overvaluation. The band names are merely descriptions set by the creator, not buy or sell instructions.
What information should be considered alongside it?
The Rainbow Chart mainly reflects the long-term background and is not well suited to capturing short-term momentum and turning points. When using it, it can be combined with RSI、MACD, trading volume, candlestick patterns, and the Fear and Greed Index, while also monitoring macroeconomic factors such as interest rates, inflation, and global liquidity. Different tools observe different time scales, so their conclusions may not be consistent.
The model’s main limitations
The chart relies on historical prices and the assumption that prices grow approximately according to a logarithmic trend, but market structure may change due to institutional participation, spot ETF and monetary policy. The band boundaries and labels are subjective, and the model has also been recalibrated. Therefore, it is better suited as a historical reference framework than as a forecasting model or an independent basis for decisions.
