SRC-20 Token Basics
SRC-20 is a token standard for creating fungible assets on Bitcoin using Bitcoin Stamps technology. It writes data to UTXO, emphasizing the non-deletion and persistent preservation of data, but it usually incurs higher data storage costs, while support from related wallets and protocols remains relatively limited.
SRC-20 What is
SRC-20 Using Bitcoin Stamps technology, token-related data is inscribed onto the Bitcoin blockchain, thereby supporting the creation of interchangeable fungible assets. It is not Bitcoin’s native currency, but rather a token format that operates in parallel with BTC it; when users conduct related transactions, they can still use BTC to pay network fees.
How data is stored
SRC-20 records data in unspent transaction outputs, namely UTXO. Evidence describes this storage method as non-deletable, giving the related records strong tamper resistance and persistence. It allows data of different sizes to be attached, but increasing the data volume also raises the Bitcoin transaction fees that must be paid.
Differences between BRC-20
Both standards are used to create fungible tokens on Bitcoin, but their storage paths differ.SRC-20 uses the Bitcoin Stamps protocol and places information in UTXO;BRC-20 instead uses witness data through the Ordinal protocol. The latter limits information size, usually costs less, and currently has broader support from wallets, protocols, and platforms.
