BNB Chain Pasteur Hard Fork Beginner's Guide
Pasteur is a BNB Smart Chain mainnet hard fork activated on August 25, 2026 focused on remediating cross-chain and validator governance vulnerabilities and increasing block capacity without reducing block times or raising gas costs.
Upgrade Background and Scope
Pasteur July 21, 2026 entered the BSC testnet and was activated on mainnet on August 25 As a hard fork, node operators had to adopt the new rules and upgrade to client v1.7.7 before activation; ordinary users and most developers did not need to take any action. This upgrade included BEP-682、BEP-695 and BEP-675。
Cross-Chain and Governance Security
BEP-682 patches a gap in cross-chain signature verification, preventing the same validator from being counted repeatedly so that the signature threshold must be met by a sufficient number of genuine signers.BEP-695 improves consensus-key rotation: old keys lose administrative authority, pending penalties cannot be evaded through rotation, and blacklisted addresses cannot bypass signature-governance restrictions.
Block Capacity and Test Data
BEP-675 adjusts block construction so that blocks can accommodate more transactions while maintaining the same block interval and without increasing gas costs.BNB Chain's controlled testnet benchmarks show that TPS increased from approximately 1,237 to 2,324; this is not a mainnet measurement, and the feature will be rolled out in phases after the fork, so actual gains may emerge gradually.
