BEP-95: BNB Chain's Real-Time Burn Mechanism
BEP-95 specifies that a proportion of block Gas fees is used to burn BNB and allows validators to adjust the burn rate through on-chain governance.
Purpose of BEP-95
BEP-95 is an improvement proposal for BNB Chain. It takes a fixed proportion of the block Gas fees collected by validators and permanently burns that amount of BNB, continuously reducing token supply. The real-time burn mechanism continues operating even after the established BNB supply target has been reached.
How Gas Fees Are Allocated and Burned
The Gas fees collected in each block are allocated to two smart contracts. One sixteenth goes to the System Reward Contract and is used for cross-chain package subsidies until the balance reaches 100 BNB; the remainder goes to the Validator Set Contract. After a block is finalized, the contract calculates the amount as the burn rate multiplied by the Gas fee and transfers it to the burn address.
Governance of the Burn Rate
The proposal's initial burn rate is 10%, and BSC validators can vote on whether to adjust it. A community member can submit a proposal after staking at least 2,000 BNB, and the stake is returned after a decision is made. When voter participation reaches 50%, the corresponding change is implemented through cross-chain communication.
