Cryptocurrency Trading Fundamentals and Risk Management
This guide introduces trading preparation, order mechanisms, common strategies, and risk controls. Cryptocurrency markets operate around the clock and are highly volatile, and no strategy is completely safe. Learners should first understand the rules and risks before deciding whether the activity is suitable for them.
Preparing before trading
Cryptocurrency trading involves buying and selling digital assets on a platform and accepting gains or losses caused by price movements. Before participating, users need to understand platform mechanisms, account security, and applicable requirements. When transferring digital assets, verify the asset, network, and address. Even if addresses look similar, an unsupported network or asset can make recovery impossible.
Trading pairs, order books, and orders
Trading generally takes place through trading pairs. BTC/USDT, for example, represents an exchange relationship between two assets. An order book aggregates buy and sell orders at different price levels. A market order matches available quotes as quickly as possible and may experience slippage. A limit order sets an execution price, but even when the market reaches that price, queue position or insufficient liquidity may prevent a complete fill.
Strategies and analytical methods
Day trading opens and closes positions within the same trading day. Swing trading generally holds positions for days to weeks, scalping frequently seeks small price movements, and long-term holding reduces trading frequency. Technical analysis focuses on price charts, candlesticks, and indicators, while fundamental analysis examines technology, use cases, teams, token economics, and adoption. Neither can guarantee results.
Put risk control first
Risk management includes limiting committed funds, controlling position size, and considering target prices and tolerable losses in advance. A stop-loss order triggers an exit instruction when its condition is met, but actual execution still depends on order type, liquidity, and price gaps and cannot guarantee a fill exactly at the stop price. Diversification cannot eliminate broad market risk, and hedging adds costs and complexity.
