An Introduction to Embedded DeFi and B2B Liquidity Infrastructure
Embedded DeFi enables users to swap or trade directly within an existing app, while B2B liquidity infrastructure provides quote requests, routing, and settlement capabilities in the background. Together, they lower integration barriers but also introduce infrastructure dependency and composability risks.
Experience Layer and Infrastructure Layer
Embedded DeFi places functions such as swapping and trading within wallets or other apps, so users do not need to navigate to a separate DEX. B2B liquidity infrastructure operates on the developer side, connecting multiple trading venues through API、SDK and routing engines to handle pricing, order routing, and settlement. The former is the user-facing experience, while the latter provides the back-end capabilities that support it.
How Routing Improves Execution
Different AMM liquidity pools and trading venues may have different liquidity and quotes. After a user initiates a swap, the routing system compares multiple sources and executes the selected route using smart contracts. Available sources include RFQ trading desks, proprietary AMM and permissionless AMM; aggregators also typically assess actual execution prices, response times, order rejection rates, and settlement success rates.
Benefits, Risks, and Evaluation Methods
Developers can access broader liquidity through a single integration, while users can reduce operational steps, and orders in the ecosystem can more easily flow to venues with better quotes. However, applications inherit the security risks of routers and related protocols, and component failures may propagate through the technology stack. Liquidity and Gas costs can also change, so execution prices, spreads, and settlement performance require ongoing monitoring.
