Ask Price(Minimum price accepted by the seller) A beginner’s guide
Ask Price means the lowest price a seller is willing to accept. Understanding its relationship with bids、order book, order types, and bid-ask spread helps beginners understand quotes and liquidity on a trading interface.
Ask Price Basic meaning of the
Ask Price(also known as asking price) is the lowest price a seller is willing to accept when selling one unit of an asset. In the trading market, a buyer’s quote is called a bids, while the selling price set by someone holding an asset and preparing to sell is called an asks; together, they represent the market’s current willingness to buy and sell.
Execution sequence in the order book
order book lists the prices and quantities at which traders are willing to buy or sell. When using a market order, sell orders are generally matched with the current highest bid, while buy orders are matched with the lowest ask; therefore, the highest bid and lowest ask are generally executed first.
Limit orders and market depth
When a seller uses a limit order, they can specify the ask price themselves. If that price is not the lowest ask in the order book, the order generally will not be executed first; instead, it will remain in the book and add market depth, and may be executed only after lower asks have been filled;market order cannot be used to specify this price manually.
Spreads and liquidity
The difference between the lowest ask price and the highest bid price is called the bid-ask spread. Markets with more orders and participants that are more liquid typically have narrower spreads; a narrower spread may reflect higher liquidity and more robust price competition, while a wider spread may indicate lower liquidity.
