A senior Iranian official told Reuters that the U.S. and Iran have not negotiated over Iran’s nuclear program, and that U.S. recognition of Iran’s right to enrich uranium is Tehran’s red line.
US Vice President Vance said that if Iran wants to end the ongoing 7-month US-Iran war, it must first substantially reduce its uranium enrichment capacity; the two sides continue to exchange proposals through mediators, but disagree over the sequence of the ceasefire and nuclear restrictions.
Iranian President Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons and is willing to reduce its uranium enrichment level and accept inspections; he said Iran is willing to continue negotiations based on the signed Iran-U.S. memorandum of understanding.
