Think of it as submitting a payment instruction that cannot be easily reversed. This analogy does not mean that every transfer is irreversible, but you should not rely on a refund or manual reversal mechanism being available.
The Correct Concept
First obtain the recipient details from a trusted source, then cross-check them against the wallet confirmation screen. A platform may require a minimum deposit amount or multiple network confirmations; successful on-chain execution and crediting by the platform are separate stages.
Common Misconceptions
Do not copy an address from an unfamiliar small-value transfer in your transaction history; do not trust a request to change an address merely because the contact profile picture is the same; a transaction hash is not a refund password.
What to Watch Out For
If the funds have not arrived, save the transaction hash, check the status on the relevant network's blockchain explorer, and then use the platform's official channels to verify the required number of confirmations and its deposit rules. Do not make another transfer in an attempt to “activate” the first one.
