According to Axios, executives at Anthropic, OpenAI, and other AI companies are privately war-gaming catastrophic AI events and the public backlash and political resistance they could trigger. OpenAI said the exercises are intended to prepare for various possible scenarios and do not mean that such events will necessarily occur.
Anthropic launches OSS Scanner and a critical-infrastructure defense program; over the past 6 months, it used AI to identify more than 29000 suspected vulnerabilities in open-source software and opened unreviewed reports to maintainers of eligible projects.
X account @jbsdc posted: “There’s not going to be a major bipartisan bill on AI safety in next six months absent some major hack/agent swarm that clearly damages key infrastructure. Congress isn’t ready to deal with this, partly bc of knowledge and partly bc it’ll require serious ideological compromise.”
