Otter.ai Secures 320000000 USD Financing: No Equity Sold; Repayment Comes From Revenue Generated by New Customers

Beating Insights AI Brief:AI meeting-notes company Otter.ai announced that it has obtained Customer Value Fund from a General Catalyst-affiliated 320000000 USD in growth financing.

However, this is not traditional equity financing. The fund provides capital for sales and customer acquisition, then recovers its principal and agreed return from revenue generated by the relevant new customers. This model does not dilute existing shareholders' equity, while capital recovery is tied to customer-acquisition performance.

Otter.ai plans to expand its sales and marketing budget to 2 to 3 times its original level, aiming to at least double enterprise-business revenue within 2027 years. As early as 2025 March the company surpassed 100000000 USD in annual recurring revenue (ARR), but it did not disclose its latest revenue in this round.

Otter says it has accumulated more than 40000000 users, and 500 of the Fortune 86%companies already have people using its product. However, most of these users come from organic adoption and do not mean that their companies have already paid. The company hopes to convert them into formal enterprise customers. On the product side, Otter has launched real-time AI assistance features during meetings and is also testing automated pre-meeting briefings, seeking to use historical meeting data to provide more real-time Q&A capabilities.

The enterprise market also faces a privacy hurdle. Corporate IT administrators have discussed on Reddit how to block meeting-recording bots such as Otter from automatically joining meetings. Otter also faces a class-action lawsuit over allegations that it recorded meetings without the consent of all participants. This year,August a U.S. court allowed multiple privacy claims to proceed, but has not found that the company acted unlawfully.
