Iranian foreign minister reveals the “2-day plan”; U.S. compliance could restart Iran-U.S. negotiations
BlockBeats reports,November 2, according to CCTV News, at local time November 1, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a media interview that the Iranian delegation’s visit to Qatar was a continuation of Iran’s ongoing communication with Qatar, Pakistan, and other mediators. At present, the proposal on the table is basically the same as Iran’s previously proposed “seven-day plan.” Mediators including Qatar and Pakistan have also held multiple consultations and discussions on this matter, and proposed suggestions that are more feasible and actionable than Iran’s “seven-day plan.”
Araghchi said that one of Qatar’s suggestions was to “shorten the 7-day period to 5 days or even less.” At present, Iran has agreed to a “2-day plan”: on the first day, the United States will take a series of (compliance) measures. On the second day, the Strait of Hormuz will open, and traffic through the strait will return to its previous state.
Araghchi pointed out that all these issues are now on the table. As long as the United States complies with Iran’s 2-day plan, it can pave the way for peace and restore normal operations in the Strait of Hormuz. Only after the United States fulfills the relevant commitments and the Strait of Hormuz opens will the path to renewed negotiations between Iran and the United States open. It is understood that the conditions Iran has proposed for U.S. compliance include determining new shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, unfreezing Iranian funds, ending regional wars including in Lebanon, lifting the maritime blockade, granting Iran an exemption for oil exports, and lifting new sanctions imposed by the United States after the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.”
