UBS: Bullish on Asian emerging-market bonds; gold retains diversification value

BlockBeats news, September 22: UBS is shifting the focus of its asset allocation toward Asian emerging-market bonds. Adrian Zuercher, Co-Head of Global Asset Allocation at the UBS Chief Investment Office and Co-Head of Global Investment Management Asia Pacific, said on CNBC that global yields remain elevated, creating more allocation opportunities in credit and fixed-income markets.

Zuercher stated that a strong macroeconomic environment is supporting emerging-market bond performance. Bonds in Asia’s technology sector, particularly high-yield bonds, have outperformed the broader market in recent months. He believes that, compared with 10 to 15 years ago, the overall quality of high-yield bonds is now higher, and Asian emerging-market bonds can offer both more attractive yields and support from a relatively resilient macroeconomic environment.

In commodities, UBS remains bullish on gold’s value as a diversification investment. Zuercher said that the current environment is relatively favorable for gold, with structural U.S. dollar weakness supporting gold prices.

In addition, UBS believes that broader commodity exposure also helps diversify risk. Developments in the Middle East have pushed up oil prices, while the AI boom has increased demand for commodities such as copper.
