New York City Comptroller calls on Anthropic to pause IPO, and first address AI safety and governance risks

BlockBeats reports that October 15, according to Bloomberg, New York City Comptroller Mark Levine wrote to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Wednesday, calling on the company to pause AI until it has adequately addressed risks related to safety, governance, and the pace of development IPO, prioritizing the unprecedented risks posed by the technology. Levine oversees public pensions with assets exceeding 325000000000 USD.

Levine believes that the “ethically binding” safety agreement reached by the Trump administration with AI companies including Anthropic remains insufficient. He urged Anthropic to establish corresponding governance mechanisms, specifically disclose how appropriate audit and control measures will be implemented, their scope and expected timeline, and explain whether and how these measures can respond to Amodei's previous call to slow the pace of development of AI model capabilities.

Anthropic plans to go public as early as next month, with fundraising that may reach or exceed SpaceX's previous record IPO. The company met with some investors at its headquarters on Wednesday and disclosed third-quarter revenue this year of 16800000000 USD. Anthropic did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
