Zelenskyy accuses Russia of violating energy ceasefire, urges Trump to act to implement agreement

BlockBeats news,October 12, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday accused Russia of violating the energy ceasefire arrangement between Russia and Ukraine announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, saying Russian forces attacked a combined heat and power plant in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and urging the United States to take action to ensure Russia complies with the agreement.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine has still not received the specific terms of the energy ceasefire, and that he learned of Trump's announcement that both sides had agreed to a ceasefire through the media. He said that over the past 1 weeks, Russian forces had launched 200 attacks on Ukraine's power generation and transmission facilities, while another 17 attacks targeted oil and gas facilities, adding that Ukrainian forces did not attack Russian refineries on Sunday night.

Europe is taking a cautious view of whether the ceasefire can be implemented. French President Emmanuel Macron said that no signs of Russia complying with the energy ceasefire had been seen over the past 48 hours. EU foreign ministers on Monday approved nearly 1600 new sanctions listings targeting Russia's military-industrial complex, more than half of which involved the ballistic-missile production chain.

Reuters also reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that the United States had threatened to suspend intelligence sharing with Ukraine and stop providing weapons through relevant mechanisms in order to pressure Ukraine to stop attacking Russian energy facilities. Russia has not yet responded to the ceasefire arrangement.
