U.S. corporate earnings growth expectations continue to cool, with analysts warning that highly valued U.S. equities have limited room for error

BlockBeats news,October 13, data compiled by Bank of America showed that although S&P 500 Index earnings expectations for the third quarter remained strong, 11 of the 10 sectors are expected to see earnings growth slow from the previous quarter.

Data compiled from industry research showed that analysts expect earnings growth for S&P 500 Index constituents to slow from 2026 third-quarter 25%and fourth-quarter 28%, to 2027 in the first half of 18%, indicating a slight weakening in the overall earnings outlook ahead. A slowdown in expected earnings growth alone is not enough to end the stock market rally. However, with U.S. equities near record highs and growing market concerns that inflationary pressures may prove more persistent than expected, U.S. companies must deliver sufficiently strong results to drive stocks to new highs.

Luca Paolini, chief strategist at Pictet Asset Management, said: “We are seeing early signs that earnings growth momentum may be peaking. With the bar for earnings growth expectations set so high, even a slight miss could trigger a sharp market reaction.”
