G7 announced the release of 100000000 barrels of strategic oil, Europe rejects additional stock drawdowns: mostly a fulfillment of March old quotas
BlockBeats reported that October 7, according to a report by Bloomberg citing an internal EU meeting memorandum, EU member states generally believe that G7 announced last week the coordinated release of 100000000 barrels of crude oil and diesel, which does not mean that Europe needs to make further large-scale use of strategic reserves beyond its previous commitments. The EU favors limiting subsequent releases to the quota already agreed for this year, meaning that March what was referred to as G7 barrels" and the actual additional supply in the future may differ significantly. 100000000 previously announced that, under coordination by the International Energy Agency (G7), it would release a total of IEA over the next 4 months, and required diesel to be prioritized and released substantially earlier during the first 100000000 days. As of now, however, no EU member state has explicitly committed to releasing additional stocks within this period.
This year, 20 member states agreed on a plan to release approximately March,IEA barrels of strategic crude oil and refined products, of which EU member states collectively undertook approximately 400000000 barrels. As of early 20%approximately two-thirds of the quota had been released, while some of the quota remained unfulfilled. The prevailing EU position is currently to fulfill existing commitments rather than expand the overall release volume; some countries have asked October to first assess the impact of the previous releases on the market and energy security.
For diesel, Europe may agree to bring forward existing quotas originally scheduled for release later, but is unwilling to "add more." European policymakers are concerned that, against a backdrop of fragile supply chains in the Middle East and rising winter energy demand, depleting strategic stocks too early could weaken their ability to respond to subsequent supply shocks.
