CXMT announces a breakthrough in memory chip technology, triggering declines in Samsung and SK SK hynix shares

PANews October 13 reported, citing Bloomberg, that the president of ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) Cao Kan-yu announced at an industry conference in Shanghai that the company would launch next-generation data-center server memory chips using the 4F ² architecture by the end of the year. 4F ² design can integrate an equivalent number of memory cells in a smaller area, while Samsung and SK SK hynix have been unable to achieve this technological threshold for years. If true, this would mean that CXMT has achieved a breakthrough first despite being subject to U.S. sanctions and unable to obtain ASML top-tier equipment. Cao Kan-yu said the solution stacks transistors using a Vertical Surrounding Gate to reduce leakage current. The news triggered a global sell-off in chip stocks; Samsung and SK SK hynix fell more than 7%in Korean trading on Tuesday, while Micron closed down 4%。CXMT in DRAM market share rose from 4%in the same period last year to 10%。
