The Father of Node.js Joins Its Old Rival Cloudflare,Deno runtime 1 years later, official development ends

Beating AI breaking news reports that Cloudflare announced that Deno’s entire team has officially joined the company.Deno is a JavaScript/TypeScript runtime launched by Node.js creator Ryan Dahl. The team also announced that, for the next 1 years, it will provide only bug fixes and security updates for the Deno runtime, after which official development will cease. The cloud-hosting service Deno Deploy will also shut down in 6 months.

In a notable contrast, Ryan Dahl described 2022 as the most direct competitor to Cloudflare Workers in Deno. Now that Deno Deploy is leaving the market, the company will assist paid customers in migrating to Cloudflare Workers。Deno runtime will remain open source, allowing the community to take over development.JavaScript software-package platform JSR will continue operating, with its infrastructure moving to Cloudflare.

Going forward, Ryan Dahl will work with Deno co-founder Bert Belder to integrate the two open-source projects. One is celld, developed by the Deno team, which supports running distributed Workers and Durable Objects on developers’ own servers; the other is workerd, open-sourced by Cloudflare, which is the underlying runtime engine for Cloudflare Workers.Durable Objects can preserve application state and handle real-time connections, making it suitable for AI Agents that need to continuously record task progress.

The two sides plan to integrate celld’s distributed capabilities into workerd, allowing developers to run this technology on their own servers and reducing reliance on Cloudflare’s cloud platform.
