OpenAIology AWS Building a software marketplace: Figma and Adobe purchases can also count toward enterprise contract commitments

Beating AI flash reported that OpenAI launched OpenAI Marketplace. When enterprises sign major-customer contracts with OpenAI, they agree to spend a certain amount during the contract term. Eligible customers can now count part of the cost of purchasing third-party software toward that amount, rather than spending it entirely on OpenAI’s own products.

The first batch includes 32 partners, including Adobe, Figma, Salesforce, ServiceNow, HubSpot, Harvey, Palo Alto Networks, and CrowdStrike. Enterprises can browse products in Marketplace, but cannot place orders directly yet. Actual purchases are still contracted between customers and partners; the partners issue invoices, and OpenAI then counts eligible amounts toward the spending commitment.

This model is similar to AWS, and Azure’s cloud marketplaces. OpenAI can refer its existing enterprise customers to partners, while partners gain another sales channel. Sam Altman also described Marketplace as part of OpenAI’s enterprise strategy, hoping to leverage ChatGPT’s user and customer scale for software distribution.
