[Bank of Korea warns:AI Slower spending could reduce chip exports by tens of billions USD]

The Bank of Korea warned that if major U.S. technology companies slow capital expenditure in artificial intelligence next year, South Korea's semiconductor exports could decline from previous projections by 50000000000 to 100000000000 USD. The Bank of Korea modeled this scenario in a written response submitted to National Assembly member Ahn Do-geol, assuming that unit prices of South Korean semiconductor products fall 10%. Under this scenario, South Korea's 2027 year GDP growth rate would decline by approximately 0.4 percentage points, while the current account surplus would also be far below the previously preliminary forecast of 430000000000 USD. South Korean chip exports account for approximately half of the country's total exports. Capital expenditures by Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Oracle are expected to increase from last year's 40000000000 USD to this year's 80000000000 USD, reaching 110000000000 USD next year. The Bank of Korea noted that AI demand trends and the memory-chip industry cycle remain highly uncertain. If technology giants reduce AI infrastructure investment, South Korea's chip exports and overall economic growth could both be affected.
