CoinShares: Net outflows from digital asset investment products this week 434000000 USD BlockBeats reported that October 17, CoinShares released a market report stating that stronger-than-expected U.S. inflation and consumer spending data drove market expectations for the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy in a hawkish direction, weakening bitcoin and the broader digital asset market. Global digital asset investment products recorded net outflows this week 434000000 USD, indicating that investor sentiment deteriorated markedly after the U.S.CPI data was released.

The data showed that U.S.September CPI rose 0.6%month on month and 3.7%year on year, above the market expectation of 3.6%; core CPI rose 2.6%year on year. Retail sales grew 0.8%month on month during the same period, far exceeding the market expectation of approximately 0.3%, but retail sales excluding gasoline grew by only 0.2%, indicating that some of the consumption growth came from higher energy prices.

The report said that inflation remains elevated and economic demand remains resilient, making it difficult for the Federal Reserve to ease its restrictive policy. Polymarket data showed that, as of October 15, the market estimated the probability of the Federal Reserve October keeping interest rates unchanged at approximately 75%, while the probability of a 25-basis-point rate hike was approximately 25%; however, expectations for another rate hike before year-end have risen significantly.

CoinShares believes that bitcoin remains under pressure in the short term from fluctuations in rate expectations, but this does not necessarily mean that its fundamentals will weaken. Its subsequent performance will depend on whether inflation cools and whether economic activity shows signs of weakness sufficient to ease pressure for rate hikes.
