XRP Ledger Foundation clarifies security fix concerns: no new issuance XRP, supply remains fixed
BlockBeats reports that October 12,XRP Ledger Foundation (XRPLF) posted on social media to clarify questions and misunderstandings arising from the recent xrpld 3.4.1 security fix. The foundation explicitly stated that the vulnerability addressed by this fix did not enable the issuance of additional XRP,XRP; the total supply has been fixed at 100000000000 units since the ledger launched, and no transaction can create more tokens. The vulnerability was a pathway to bypass the relevant rules and was fixed in the 2 weeks-ago 3.4.1 version. Ledger data is fully public, and approximately 99986000000 units XRP are currently in circulation (deflationary due to fee burns). The community and foundation have continuously verified the supply, and no anomalies have been found.
The vulnerability required hundreds of deliberately constructed operations to trigger and could not be reached through ordinary payments. It was discovered and responsibly reported by Cayden Liao and Veria AI through AI. To avoid exposing the attack surface after the fix was made public but during the amendment voting period,XRPLF, RippleX, core developers, and validators used social consensus to distribute the fixed version first to default UNL validators and published public binaries on September 25. The process subsequently continued through normal amendment voting (more than 80%support maintained for 2 weeks) to make 3.4.1 a required version. The foundation stated that it will further strengthen formal verification,AI adversarial testing, and its bug bounty program.
