Ledger asks distributors in six Southeast Asian countries and Hong Kong to halt hardware wallet sales amid investigation into alleged device tampering
BlockBeats reported,October 14, crypto hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger has asked distributors in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Hong Kong to suspend sales and remove the relevant devices from shelves while it investigates suspected hardware wallet tampering.
Ledger said on Tuesday that the confirmed incidents remain confined to Southeast Asia, and there is no evidence yet that devices purchased in other regions are linked to crypto asset theft. The investigation focuses on identifying who tampered with the devices and at which point in the distribution chain the issue occurred.
The sales suspension request expands on Ledger's previous measures to halt sales and suspend shipments involving distributor CryptoBilis. The related investigation was made public on October 9, after users reported that Ledger devices purchased through the distributor were involved in crypto asset theft. Since then, users in regions including Europe have also reported finding signs of suspected tampering in devices purchased through retail channels.
Ledger emphasized that there is currently no indication that its infrastructure, systems, services, or official direct-sales channels have been compromised.
