U.S.-listed optical module leader Marvell plans to acquire optical chip leader Lumentum

BlockBeats News,October 29, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that U.S.-listed chip company Marvell Technology (MRVL) is in advanced talks with data center optics provider Lumentum Holdings (LITE) regarding an acquisition. The report said the deal could be announced as early as next week, though the talks remain private.

Following the news, Lumentum shares rose about 11%in after-hours trading, valuing the company at approximately 91000000000 USD at the time; Marvell fell more than 8%in after-hours trading. Lumentum primarily produces optical components for communications networks and data centers. As AI computing workloads have increased demand for high-speed data transmission, the sector has attracted more capital. Marvell had approximately 3920000000 USD in cash and cash equivalents in its latest fiscal quarter. Bernstein analysts noted that the potential deal size would test its financing and integration capabilities and would be difficult to complete entirely in cash.

Marvell has benefited from demand for custom AI chips and networking products, with its share price nearly tripling year to date. If completed, the acquisition would further advance its footprint in AI infrastructure optical technologies; the company announced late last year that it would acquire photonics technology company Celestial 3250000000 USD for AI. Earlier this month, Marvell also raised its 2028 fiscal-year revenue forecast from 15000000000 USD to 20000000000 USD, citing strong demand for custom AI chips and data center networking products.
