MiraclePlus, founded by Lu Qi, sanctioned by the United States: Implicated in former Google engineer's trade-secret theft case 4 Chinese entities
Dongcha Beating AI Flash: The U.S. Department of the Treasury October 19 has placed MiraclePlus, founded by Lu Qi, on its sanctions list. Those named also include its first- and second-phase venture capital funds, Zhiyuan Enterprise Management Center, and Shanghai Zhisuan Technology, for a total of 5 Chinese entities. The sanctions include freezing assets under U.S. jurisdiction, restricting financial transactions, and prohibiting U.S. persons from making certain equity and debt investments.
The sanctions stem from the trade-secret theft case involving former Google engineer Ding Linwei. The U.S. Department of Justice said that during his employment, he privately uploaded 2000 pages of internal Google materials, involving TPU、GPU chips and AI supercomputing infrastructure. Ding Linwei later founded Shanghai Zhisuan Technology and, when presenting the project at the MiraclePlus startup camp, claimed that it could replicate Google's AI supercomputing technology. The U.S. Department of State disclosed that MiraclePlus provided it with seed funding and obtained an equity stake in the company, and was therefore determined to have provided material support for the related trade-secret theft.
This year,January Ding Linwei was found guilty by a jury of 7 counts of trade-secret theft. However, in August the judge dismissed another 7 counts of economic espionage, finding that the evidence was insufficient to prove that he intended to benefit the Chinese government.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury has allowed MiraclePlus and its 3 affiliated entities to wind down existing transactions under a transitional license before January 19, 2027.
