Chinese brokerages begin winding down mainland China business; Guotai Junan International has restricted account deposits and purchases
BlockBeats reports,September 28, following cross-border Chinese brokerages such as Futu, Tiger Brokers, Longbridge and China Renaissance Securities, some Chinese-funded brokerages in Hong Kong have also begun winding down existing mainland China business. To implement relevant regulatory requirements, Guotai Junan International has, since the day of this month, partially adjusted the services available to existing investor accounts in mainland China. According to Guotai Junan International customer service representatives, the adjustments are similar to those previously made by brokerages including Futu Holdings and Tiger Brokers: when existing mainland investor accounts log in from mainland China (the login is shown as mainland China), they will be unable to deposit funds or buy, and may only withdraw funds and sell. When the relevant account's login shows outside mainland China, the account's deposit, withdrawal and trading functions will not be affected. If a client obtains a new identity, they must update the corresponding new identity-document information; at that point, the client, as the holder of an overseas identity document, will not be subject to this restriction.
