OpenCode launched OpenTunnel: remotely use a computer from a phone with AI tools
Beating AI news flash,OpenCode co-founder Dax Raad launched the open-source intranet penetration tool OpenTunnel. It can generate public API or OpenCode links for websites,HTTPS services running on a computer. For example, run OpenCode on a home computer, then access it from a phone via the link while away and continue managing AI programming tasks, without configuring a public IP or router port forwarding.
This feature is similar to Tailscale Funnel: it can expose local services to the public internet without requiring visitors to join a private network.OpenTunnel also uses end-to-end encryption.HTTPS’s private key is stored on the user’s computer, and traffic is decrypted only after reaching the local machine. Under normal circumstances, the relay server cannot read the communications. However, Tailscale Funnel also offers similar encryption capabilities.OpenTunnel also provides SDK, allowing developers to add public access capabilities directly to their own applications.OpenCode’s V2 development branch has merged the relevant code and added a remote pairing command that can generate one-time connection links and QR codes, allowing devices such as phones to connect to OpenCode running on the local machine.
However, a public link is not the same as a private connection. Anyone can try to access a public URL, so sensitive services still require authentication. The community also pointed out that the operator controls the domain and certificate issuance permissions and could theoretically issue another certificate. Dax acknowledged that users still need to trust the operator and said that users can deploy relay services themselves.
