[OpenAI publishes 722 mathematics papers; Ethereum Foundation core researcher calls on the industry to enter bunker mode]
Ethereum Foundation core researcher Justin Drake posted this morning, calling on the blockchain industry to enter “bunker mode”: gradually move assets to new addresses and hide public keys behind hashes to address the risk of rapid recovery of AI private keys that ECDSA could bring. This warning stems from October 6 mathematics papers published by OpenAI in 722, which include disproofs of several long-standing conjectures (such as the Erdős unit distance problem and the n log(n) lower bound for integer multiplication), indicating that mathematical superintelligence is rapidly approaching. Drake advised large holders and trading platforms to act first and avoid panic; he also noted that smaller BTC wallets retain some protection due to “Satoshi's shield”; and called for accelerated adoption of hash-based cryptography (such as SPHINCS) as the standard for the post-AI era. In response to Drake’s call, Vitalik suggested that, where operationally convenient, funds should be prioritized for addresses that have not yet initiated transactions, but he did not advise users to hastily move assets immediately, as moving them itself also carries a risk of fund loss. He also suggested that multisignature wallets use off-chain signature confirmation whenever possible to avoid publicly exposing signature information.
