Google’s space data center prototype satellite completes its first in-orbit AI inference

PANews October 31 reported that Google CEO Sundar Pichai posted on X that Google’s Project Suncatcher has reached a “hello world” milestone: following the launch of a prototype satellite several weeks ago, the team successfully sent commands to orbit, activated the satellite’s TPU and ran a prompt. The ground then received the first complete response, a haiku. Project Suncatcher aims to deploy solar-powered satellites equipped with TPU into space to explore using solar energy to power AI computing. The prototype satellite entered orbit aboard a SpaceX launch mission in early October.
