U.S.SEC approved Cboe listed by public companies KPI with public companies as the underlying assets
BlockBeats news,October 15, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved the Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe) to list binary options with key performance indicators (KPI) disclosed by public companies as the underlying assets, involving Coinbase, Robinhood, and Marathon Digital (MARA) among other companies.
These contracts allow traders to make “yes/no” predictions about specific metrics, such as Coinbase's trading volume, Marathon's Bitcoin production, and Robinhood's customer data and revenue performance. Robinhood is expected to become the first retail broker to offer such products.
For the crypto market, this provides traders with a new way to bet directly beyond Bitcoin's price, enabling trading around the operating performance of crypto-related publicly listed companies.SEC This approval applies only to securities options with a specific structure, while leaving room for contracts using different structures to fall under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins said the move reflects “a new spirit of regulatory coordination, financial innovation, and investor choice.”
