Nasdaq responds to tokenization controversy: declines to comment on rumors of “discouraging issuers,” reiterates it will not participate OKXICE external venues

BlockBeats reported that October 30, according to crypto reporter Eleanor Terrett, a Nasdaq spokesperson declined to comment on claims that “its representatives had discouraged listed companies from using OKXICE to tokenize shares.” The spokesperson reiterated that Nasdaq does not plan to participate in trading venues operating under the SEC Innovation Exemption, believing this is not the best path for tokenization. The spokesperson stressed that Nasdaq remains committed to the tokenization process and is advancing it within the existing market framework through an issuer-centric Nasdaq Equity Token model. In addition, Nasdaq again denied any connection with an advertisement in this week’s Wall Street Journal, stating that it did not authorize the advertisement to use or link to its FAQ and QR code.

Previously, program host Jacqueline claimed that Nasdaq representatives had allegedly warned its listed issuers not to trade shares through a joint-venture tokenized-stock venue operated by OKX and ICE. Approximately 38 companies have objected, of which 23 are Nasdaq-listed companies. Nasdaq has publicly expressed concerns about tokenized-stock trading outside traditional market structures, explicitly stating that it does not plan to launch such a venue. It is currently working with Kraken to advance its own tokenization model, targeting launch in the second quarter of 2027.
