Instinct’s daily growth 10%comes at a cost: computing demand is doubling weekly, and the founder 40%spends time calculating how much to buy

Dongcha Beating AI breaking news, individual AI Agent Instinct founder Noah Shinn said the company’s user base has recently been growing by approximately 10%to 11%per day, with corresponding computing demand nearly doubling every week. He now spends approximately 40%of his time considering how much computing capacity to purchase in advance.

The difficulty is that computing capacity cannot be purchased in real time in lockstep with user growth. Shinn ran the numbers: if he buys only 2 times the current computing capacity, it will be exhausted in around 1 weeks; buying 5 times would also be fully consumed in under 3 weeks; directly purchasing 10 times, meanwhile, amounts to committing a large cost upfront. Many resources must also be reserved months in advance, while the price of adding capacity on short notice may be 3 to 4 times higher.

Even if Instinct’s daily growth rate falls from 10%to 5%to 8%, Shinn estimates that after sustained growth for 3 to 4 months, capacity may still need to be prepared for a user base of 100000000 users. The issue is that this is also roughly the wait time for additional computing capacity to come online. Buying too little cannot sustain growth, while buying too much magnifies costs if growth slows.

Shinn believes this is more difficult than scaling conventional consumer internet products. When Instagram or Facebook users double, they mainly process more requests; each additional user of an individual Agent also continuously consumes substantial model inference. He said Instinct’s current scaling pace is even faster than similar challenges previously faced by Claude Code and Codex.
