humans& launches AI assistant Boba, directly AI bring it into group chats to help coordinate tasks

Beating by Dongcha AI breaking news, with an estimated valuation of 4500000000 USD humans& launches the consumer AI assistant Boba, powered by Ampersand, the collaboration model released by former 2 ly announced the day before. Users do not need to download an additional app: they can message Boba through the iPhone’s “Messages” or Android’s Google Messages, then add it to an existing group chat just like a regular contact. The product also offers a web version and is currently free to use.

For example, when several friends are discussing a trip in a group chat, Boba can search for flights and accommodation, compare prices, and calculate each person’s share of the cost. In a family group discussing purchases or picking up children, it can note who is responsible for what and send reminders at the appropriate time. Boba also remembers previously discussed plans and members’ preferences, proactively offering help when needed while trying not to interrupt ordinary small talk.

Users can also connect their email and calendar, allowing Boba to organize emails, draft replies, and schedule events. Boba can operate websites to help book restaurants, flights, and more, but user confirmation is required. This web-operation capability is still in the Alpha stage.

Ampersand, the underlying model, was specifically trained for long-term collaboration. humans& previously developed Persimmon, which simulates real users who reject suggestions, change their minds at the last minute, and disagree, then has Ampersand interact with these “virtual people” over extended periods to learn how to coordinate different people’s goals and determine when it should intervene proactively.

Boba had already undergone several months of closed testing, with users participating at least this year June. The official website states that early users exchanged more than 3000000 messages with Boba in total, of which more than 300000 came from group chats.

Boba stores messages to support cross-conversation memory. Its privacy policy also permits user inputs and AI outputs to be used to improve, train, or fine-tune its own models.
