NVIDIA reportedly halts production RTX5090, with top gaming graphics cards making way for high-priced professional cards

Dongcha Beating AI breaking news: NVIDIA may halt production of its most powerful consumer graphics card RTX 5090, reserving the core chips for higher-priced professional graphics cards. Hardware tipster MEGAsizeGPU claims that all GB202 chips produced in the future will be supplied to the RTX PRO series and will no longer be used for RTX 5090. Another tipster hongxing2020 posted what appears to be a factory notice, stating that China-specific versions are also covered by the production halt.

Both types of graphics cards use chips from the same GB202 series, but their prices differ significantly.RTX 5090 is equipped with 32GB of memory, with a launch price of 1999 USD. Targeting AI development, design, and rendering, the RTX PRO 6000 has 96GB of memory and is listed at 16000 USD on NVIDIA's official website, 8 times the price of the former. Although the selling price does not directly represent profit, the high-priced professional market clearly offers NVIDIA greater revenue potential.RTX 5090 had already become noticeably scarce in the US market, with some third-party sellers even listing it at 9600 USD. If the production halt is genuine, consumers will have to rely on remaining inventory going forward.

The bigger change may be that the GeForce flagship's performance declines. Another report claims that NVIDIA is preparing to launch a 24GB version of the RTX 5080, replacing the RTX 5090 as the highest-end gaming graphics card. The current RTX 5080's CUDA core count is only about half that of the RTX 5090, and its 4K gaming performance is approximately 30%lower. Even if the new model's memory is increased to 24GB, it would still be below the RTX 5090's 32GB.
