ChatGPT can now view Americans’ credit scores: integrates Experian to tell you which card is holding you back
Beating AI news flash, OpenAI has added credit-score tracking to ChatGPT Finances. Plus and Pro users in the United States can now directly connect their Experian credit reports and VantageScore 3.0 without first linking a bank account. The feature is being gradually rolled out on the web, iOS, and Android.
After connecting, ChatGPT can view reported accounts, balances, credit limits, credit utilization, repayment history, and inquiry history, and explain which factors are affecting the credit score. Credit reports and scores are updated monthly, and users can also receive alerts when there is a new inquiry, new account, or address change. Checking a score here is a soft inquiry and will not lower the credit score.
It can also analyze credit reports alongside account data connected to Finances through Plaid. For example, it can identify which credit card is using the most credit limit, which card should be repaid first, and what to consider before applying to rent a home, obtain an auto loan, or obtain a mortgage. Finances previously could already read spending, bills, investments, and liabilities; this update effectively adds personal credit records as well.
However, the VantageScore 3.0 displayed by ChatGPT is calculated based on the Experian report and may not be the credit score actually used by a bank or mortgage institution during approval. After a user disconnects Experian, OpenAI says the underlying credit-report data will be deleted within 30 days, but information already included in chat history or Financial Memories will not automatically disappear.
