【SoftBank's Masayoshi Son issues a rare warning about AI security concerns】

SoftBank Group Chief Executive Officer Masayoshi Son is AI one of its most ardent believers, but he said that as machines rapidly gain more capabilities, even he has begun to worry about security risks. Speaking on Sunday at a side event of the Science and Technology in Society Forum held in Kyoto, Son said that AI capabilities are increasing exponentially, making it necessary for countries to build mutual trust so they can jointly manage the technology. He spoke alongside Michael Kratsios, the White House science and technology policy adviser. Son said, “We no longer have the luxury of humans fighting one another.” He added that countries need to cooperate to control the greater threats posed by powerful AI models. He said that superintelligence could become super-dangerous if it fell into the hands of bad actors. This was a rare note of caution from Son, reflecting growing concerns after AI models exhibited troubling security vulnerabilities in recent months.
