BlackRock and Deutsche Bank CEO rebut AI bubble concerns, saying fiscal deficits and competition for capital are more pressing
BlockBeats News,October 21, according to Bloomberg,AI whether a bubble has formed, financial-industry executives hold differing views. Billionaire Ken Griffin previously warned that AI investors are almost certainly in a bubble and should prepare for setbacks, noting that major economic transformations are often accompanied by bubbles. The market has recently been concerned that the massive upfront capital expenditures required for AI may take longer than expected to translate into profits and productivity gains.
Deutsche Bank CEO CEO Christian Sewing said there is currently no reason to worry about a sharp short-term reversal in asset prices. While individual companies may face setbacks, he does not believe the market is in a bursting bubble. He distinguished between a bubble and continued volatility, and mentioned the impact of geopolitical tensions. He also said that, with an appropriate regulatory framework, industrial applications of AI would represent Germany's opportunity of the century.
BlackRock CEO CEO Larry Fink advocated accelerating the construction of AI data centers, warning that construction delays could threaten economic growth and exacerbate inflation due to high computing-power costs. He had previously noted that AI faces supply shortages and demand growth has also exceeded expectations. Fink said: “The faster we build more data centers, the more computing power we will have, and the faster we can reduce costs.”
Federated Hermes Global Equity CIO Steve Chiavarone believes investors concerned about a AI bubble may be correct, but several years too early, as infrastructure construction still has several years of room for growth before the risk of overbuilding becomes more pressing. He noted that the market is still distinguishing which companies can obtain funding and at what interest rates, the opposite of what occurs during a bubble.
Compared with a AI bubble, both Fink and Sewing see fiscal deficits as a more pressing concern, particularly as the AI industry competes with governments for investment capital. The U.S. fiscal deficit is nearing 2000000000000 USD, and U.S. Treasury yields have risen to multi-decade highs. Fink said the current intensity of competition for capital is the highest he has seen in his career. Regarding rising risks in French government bonds, Sewing said it cannot yet be called a debt crisis, but it is a warning bell for public finances and budget discipline is crucial.
