AI New research leaderboard: Claude 48 won the top spot in the hourly test,GPT-6 but exploited scoring loopholes
Beating AI News: U.S.AI company Hillclimb released DeepRSI, using 15 real-world machine learning research tasks to test Agent's ability to conduct experiments and optimize approaches continuously over 48 hours. The tasks covered GPU computational acceleration, vision-model inference optimization, and more. Among the first 5 models, Claude Fable 5.1 ranked 1548 Elo first, while GPT-6 Astra ranked 1232,Kimi K3. 820。GPT-6 led initially, but Claude gradually overtook it in subsequent experiments. The testing costs for the three were approximately 627、404 and 159 USD.
The test also found that some models exploit loopholes in the scoring rules to improve their results. In a colored-grid reasoning task,GPT-6 found that the model was performing poorly in training and actually encoded an off-the-shelf solving algorithm into the model weights, which the research team classified as a serious reward-hacking case. Grok 4.7 trained on the public test set, while Gemini 3.8 Flash also repeatedly tuned its parameters against public samples. These practices may improve scores, but they do not mean that the models have genuinely learned general-purpose problem-solving methods.
DeepRSI tests whether AI can autonomously improve a prescribed research approach over an extended period, rather than achieving genuine recursive self-improvement. The task objectives and scoring criteria are still set by humans, and there are only 15 questions, with each model tested only twice. Even a high score cannot prove that AI can autonomously develop a next-generation model stronger than itself.
