Dubai Aviation sparks a “hijacking false alarm”; pilots actually involved in a physical altercation in the cockpit
BlockBeats reports,September 30, on Wednesday, a Dubai Aviation FZ1073 flight experienced a serious anomaly en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The aircraft successively transmitted the “7700” general emergency code and the “7500” unlawful interference or hijacking code, and descended sharply over Saudi Arabia. Israel initially treated the incident as a suspected hijacking and scrambled fighter jets. The aircraft ultimately landed safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia.
After landing, Dubai Aviation confirmed that an “incident” occurred during the FZ1073 flight, and that all passengers had landed safely and completed identity checks. Meanwhile, Israel gradually ruled out the possibility of an external hijacking or security attack. Israel’s Channel 13 reported that the two pilots argued in the cockpit before the dispute escalated into a physical altercation.CNN cited sources as saying that a “violent” altercation occurred between the two men.
Reuters cited an Israeli official who declined to be named as saying that the crew issued an emergency signal after the two pilots became involved in a physical altercation, but it remains unclear whether either pilot intentionally triggered the relevant code. Israel’s Channel 13 also reported that the two pilots involved had been taken away by Saudi authorities for investigation. A preliminary assessment indicated that one was Russian or of Russian descent, while the other was Ukrainian or of Ukrainian descent.
