Claude Code desktop redesigns session management:AI Automatic task allocation, with blocked tasks displayed centrally

Beating AI news: Anthropic has updated the Claude Code desktop app, focusing on improving the management experience when multiple Agent are working simultaneously. Now, when users have Claude handle several tasks in parallel, it can automatically create nested sessions, each modifying code and running tests before reporting back to the main session upon completion. For example, while fixing a web-page layout, Claude may discover other issues involving image loading or the shopping cart and proactively suggest follow-up tasks. With one-click confirmation from the user, multiple sessions can begin work simultaneously, without being created one by one or filling the main conversation with execution logs.

A more practical change is task-status management. The new sidebar groups sessions into “Requires Attention,” “In Progress,” and “Completed.” Users no longer need to repeatedly switch windows to see which tasks are still running and which are awaiting their confirmation. Each session also has a real-time to-do list and stage summary, making it easy to take over at any time. Claude can also check the progress of other desktop sessions, read their results, and send messages.

The process for creating sessions has also been simplified. Users can open recently used folders with one click and save multiple code repositories,SSH hosts, or cloud configurations as frequently used environments. Different sessions can also use separate Git Worktree, preventing parallel modifications from directly overwriting one another’s files.

However, the core of this update is not the first implementation of multi-Agent collaboration. Claude Code previously supported parallel sessions, Worktree, and side-channel questions, while similar automatic task allocation and task boards have also appeared in other AI programming tools. This update primarily integrates task breakdown, session launch, progress tracking, and human intervention more closely, making it easier for developers to manage multiple tasks at once. But the new interface has also sparked controversy: some users complain that existing project groupings have been disrupted and that viewing context usage has become more cumbersome.
