🔍 On-Chain Detective | Analyst:BTC New whales’ share of realized cap rose to 1/3, with the price stabilizing above 77000 USD the cost basis as a key level
BlockBeats reports that October 16, analyst MorenoDV, citing CryptoQuant data, said that Bitcoin’s bear market reshaped the capital structure of its largest holders. New whales now account for approximately one-third of the total realized cap held by whales, making recent large holders increasingly important to the recovery.
As of October 15 new whales held 78610000000 USD in realized cap, while old whales held 159150000000 USD: a share of 33.06%, up from approximately 2026 at the beginning of 18%the year. This measures the value when the tokens last moved on-chain, rather than their share of the BTC supply.
This increase is not merely a shift in relative weighting. Since September realized cap held by new whales has continued to rise, while the realized cap held by old whales has remained broadly stable. Therefore, recent expansion has been concentrated among the younger cohort.
The realized price chart provides data support for this view. New whales’ aggregate cost basis fell from approximately 110000 USD near the previous cycle peak to approximately August at the market bottom, then recovered to approximately 68000 USD. This is consistent with holdings being repriced at lower levels during the downturn and then re-engaging as prices recovered.
The data shows that whales accumulated during market weakness and continued into the recovery phase. This resembles the countercyclical positioning adopted by strong hands, although cohort turnover and transfers mean that growth in realized cap cannot be equated with an equal amount of new cash inflows.
