[Central Bank of Russia: 2027 year July ban on residents conducting crypto transactions through self-custodied wallets]

The Central Bank of Russia stated that Russian residents will be prohibited, starting July 1, 2027, from trading crypto assets through self-custodied wallets or transferring funds from regulated brokers to self-custodied wallets. Relevant transactions may only be completed through licensed brokers or exchanges. Russia currently has 13 institutions approved to provide digital currency trading services, including VTB Bank and Sberbank. The central bank also prohibits transfers between licensed exchange accounts held by different individuals; even where the accounts are held by the same person, withdrawals from exchange accounts to self-custodied wallets are not permitted. Russian Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Chebeskov estimates that approximately 20000000 Russians hold 3700000000000 rubles' worth of nearly 44000000000 USD in crypto assets. Sberbank Deputy Chairman Anatoly Popov stated that only approximately 20%of Russian crypto trading volume is expected to migrate to licensed exchanges.
