Circle Foundation explores stablecoin payments for humanitarian aid, providing grants to the United Nations Development Programme and the World Food Programme

PANews September 25 reported that the Circle Foundation announced two grants to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Food Programme (WFP) to explore the use of digital payments and digital financial infrastructure in humanitarian aid and development projects. The Circle Foundation said the initiatives will examine how digital payments and regulated payment stablecoins can disburse funds to aid recipients more quickly, transparently, and at lower cost. For UNDP, the grant will be used to establish and operate a “Digital Asset Innovation Pool” to help country offices expand digital payment pilots previously conducted in Syria, Haiti, Guatemala, and The Gambia from individual projects to routine programme delivery, while providing regulatory, operational, and beneficiary-protection support; this mechanism will not replace traditional banking channels, but will serve as an additional option alongside existing payment systems.
