【South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province Suspends Stablecoin Introduction Project, Originally Scheduled for 2027 February Completion or Delay】

Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, has suspended a research project on introducing a stablecoin, citing the need to consider policy developments including the Digital Asset Basic Act. The project reportedly began in July early this year, and originally planned to August conduct the first-stage proof of concept (PoC), followed by the second-stage expansion and testnet from October to December. However, no substantive progress has been made so far. An official from Gyeonggi Province explained that the project has not been canceled; the suspension was mainly due to consideration of the policy environment, rather than a comprehensive budget reduction. The project was originally scheduled to 2027 February end, and the suspension may affect it, potentially delaying the final completion date.
