Claude Code Support MCP Tasks and Elicitations: Plugins can track long-running tasks and ask users questions midway

Dongcha Beating AI news flash, Anthropic announced that Claude Code began supporting MCP Tasks and Elicitations, allowing external plugins to manage the execution status, progress, and results of long-running tasks through standard interfaces, and ask users questions when needed.

For example, plugins can conduct in-depth research or export large reports.MCP servers can first return the task ID, then continue executing it. Claude does not have to wait continuously and can handle other work simultaneously. Once the task is complete,Claude Code will retrieve the result and pass it to Claude. If the task is running on a remote server, it can continue executing even after exiting Claude Code, and tracking can resume after re-entering the original session.Elicitations allows plugins to display a form during execution, request that the user confirm a refund or provide missing information, and then continue working.MCP Tasks became July a protocol extension this year. This is Claude Code adding support for the protocol. It is currently in public beta and requires CLI 2.1.304 or later, and MCP servers also need to be adapted.
