Goldman Sachs:AI Trading impact surpasses oil prices, driving divergence in global asset performance

BlockBeats News,October 27, Goldman Sachs’ latest research shows that over the past 3 weeks, semiconductor stock exposure explained approximately 54%of the differences in returns across asset classes, while oil price exposure explained only 2%. As the influence of AI trading continues to expand, technology stocks are becoming an important driver of global market risk appetite and divergence in asset performance.

Goldman Sachs noted that investors’ recent risk appetite has been highly synchronized with the relative performance of large-cap technology stocks. Last week, concerns over AI investment returns, financing costs, and capital expenditures intensified, triggering sell-offs in technology stocks and corporate bonds, while the Goldman Sachs risk appetite indicator fell to 2025-year April low.

South Korea’s stock market became a typical case of AI trading influencing markets. Because semiconductor stocks have a high weighting in the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI), changes in global AI investment expectations directly affected local market performance. On Tuesday this week,KOSPI closed up 3.1%,SK; SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics rose 5.2%and 4.2%, respectively.

However, Goldman Sachs emphasized that the data on 54%and 2%reflect statistical relationships within a specific time window and do not mean that AI factors determine global market gains and losses over the long term. Although the influence of the semiconductor sector has recently exceeded that of oil prices, the impact of high oil prices on inflation, monetary policy, and asset pricing should not be overlooked.

With large technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Amazon set to announce their earnings, the market will focus on whether AI demand can continue to grow and whether massive capital expenditures can translate into actual profits.
