Qatar holds marathon talks in Tehran, to continue in Doha, Qatar on Saturday

BlockBeats News,October 31, according to Axios, citing diplomatic sources, Qatari mediators held more than 12 hours of talks in Tehran on Friday, seeking to reach an agreement to restart direct talks between the United States and Iran and avert war after the midterm elections. The talks will continue in Doha, Qatar on Saturday. A diplomatic source said that during Friday's 1-day talks, Qatari mediators remained in regular contact with the White House.

Sources said: “The negotiations have made positive progress. The United States and Iran are still working to reach an agreement.” Qatar is urging the United States and Iran to agree on a series of reciprocal measures to be implemented within days, enabling both sides to return to direct talks on Iran's nuclear program and other issues.

A U.S. official said that, so far, conflicting demands have hindered the negotiations: the Trump administration insists that Iran make concessions on the nuclear issue as part of resuming talks; Iran, meanwhile, stipulates that the United States must first lift the maritime blockade, unfreeze funds, and allow it to sell oil.

Qatar is trying to persuade Iran to allow United Nations inspectors access to its bombed nuclear facilities as a confidence-building measure, while the United States hopes this will serve as a basis for easing sanctions on Iran.
