Ledger responds to hardware implant attack: Describes it as a localized distribution-channel attack and requires authorized channels in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong to suspend sales

BlockBeats reported,October 15 the cryptocurrency hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger issued a statement responding to the hardware implant attack, saying that a criminal group purchased genuine devices, added concealed components designed to steal users' recovery seed phrases during initialization, and then reintroduced them into the market through Southeast Asian distributors. Ledger stressed that its chips, operating system, and servers were not compromised, characterizing the incident as a localized distribution-channel attack occurring after devices left the company's control, rather than a systemic supply-chain attack.

Ledger has required its authorized dealers and distributors in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong to suspend sales. The company said it purchased and disassembled devices at stores in Germany and elsewhere, while also inspecting warehouse and internal inventory samples; no tampering was found in the devices examined.

The company has also tightened channel management: returned devices may not be resold even if they appear new and unopened; products may not be placed on shelves or in display areas and must be stored in the back room and handed over at the time of purchase; channels must promptly report anomalous products. Ledger said it is working with law enforcement and the security community to trace funds and dismantle the attack infrastructure, and will disclose further technical details later.
