StarkWare:Starknet Post-quantum L1 Research white paper to be released within weeks

BlockBeats reported,October 22, StarkWare stated,Starknet The community completed a non-binding Snapshot vote on “whether to explore making Starknet an independent, quantum-resistant L1.” The voting period was October 15 to 22, open to STRK stakers and delegators. The affirmative voting-power share was 93.52%, with 3236 votes in total.

StarkWare and the Starknet Foundation have accordingly launched a working group to begin research and draft a white paper and detailed proposal. The company emphasized that this vote measures community interest in becoming L1, and that any formal decision must still undergo subsequent governance procedures.

StarkWare stated that, as an Ethereum L2,Starknet relies on Ethereum for cross-chain bridges, data availability, and other components. These components use elliptic-curve cryptography vulnerable to quantum computing, meaning that comprehensive quantum resistance is constrained by Ethereum’s approximately 2029-year timeline. Progress in areas it controls can move faster:STARK proofs rely on quantum-resistant hashes, and native account abstraction allows accounts to adopt quantum-resistant signatures without a protocol upgrade. If it becomes an independent L1, it could eliminate dependence on Ethereum’s migration pace. The working group’s first major deliverable will be a white paper, expected in the coming weeks, followed by a detailed proposal for further community voting. Its Quantum Hub roadmap targets 2027 for comprehensive quantum security.
